This policy explains how free trials, cancellation, the statutory cooling-off period and refunds work for paid ActuallySpeak subscriptions. It forms part of our Terms of Service. ActuallySpeak is operated by Matthew Fabling, a sole trader trading as "Smooth English".
All three plans (General English Pro, IELTS Premium Monthly, IELTS Premium Annual) begin with a 7-day free trial. You provide card details at sign-up, but you are not charged during the trial. If you cancel before the trial ends, no payment is taken at all. This is the simplest way to avoid being billed if the service isn't for you. Your first payment is taken only when the trial ends, unless you have cancelled.
Because you buy online without meeting us in person, your subscription is a "distance contract" under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. This gives you the right to cancel within 14 days of entering into the contract, without giving a reason.
ActuallySpeak is a digital service that we make available to you immediately so you can use it during your free trial. When you tick the box to agree to our terms at checkout, you expressly ask us to start providing the service straight away and you acknowledge that you will lose your right to cancel once the service has been fully supplied. In practice:
To use this right, email actuallyspeak.help@gmail.com with the email address on your account. You may use the model cancellation wording: "I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract for the ActuallySpeak subscription."
Once the 14-day cooling-off period has passed, we do not refund the period you have already paid for. You can cancel at any time to stop the next renewal, and you keep full access until the end of your current paid period.

You can cancel in either of these ways — it takes a minute and is as easy as joining:
Cancellation stops future renewals. You are not locked into any minimum term beyond the period you have already paid for.
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the digital service must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If it is faulty or not as described and we cannot fix it within a reasonable time, you may be entitled to a price reduction or a refund. These statutory rights apply in addition to everything above and cannot be taken away by this policy.
If you think you have been charged in error, please contact us first — we will almost always resolve it quickly. Raising a bank chargeback without contacting us may result in your account being suspended while the dispute is investigated.
